Chronicle - The attack on Lord Bernier and the Closing of the Great Bridge
Year Four of the Recent Awakenings
The attack on Lord Bernier and the Closing of the Great Bridge
To the Denizenry of Her Majesty's Castle Marrach;
In accordance to the will of the Lord Chamberlain, and in upholding the duties charged to me as an Assistant Chronicler, I hereby submit an account of the attempted assassination of Lord Bernier and the subsequent closing of the Great Bridge.
In the early morning hours of the seventeenth day of the tenth month, Lord Bernier was struck from behind as he stood upon the Snow Terrace. The unknown assailant sliced the Knight’s throat and fled. The Knight was left with a potentially mortal wound.
A white cat led Mistress Avaria and Master Johnathan to the injured Knight and Apprentice Severin was able to save his life. However, it is rumoured that Lord Bernier remains close to death and facts stating otherwise have yet to be found.
Lord Bernier is one of three Masters of the Court of Honour. He works alongside Dame Petronille and Sir Anselm.
The Royal Guard is investigating the attack. While there is not much known about the assailant, the Guard feels they have several solid leads which will lead to unsuccessful assassin.
In addition to the attack on Lord Bernier, several other members of the nobility have been attacked of late. Lord Launfal was attacked by a sera during his open hours. The sera was apprehended by the Winter Watch. Within the last few weeks, Sir Darvius and Lord Gracien have been attacked; threats have been made against Sir Bragi and Lady Amoret.
In response to the attempted assassination His Excellency, Lord Boreas, has ordered that the doors of the Great Bridge linking the two baileys be locked. The bridge will be opened during certain hours, to be posted by the Royal Guard. Those with business in the Inner Bailey or the Outer Bailey may move across the bridge during those times.
Guest passes will not be honoured during this time, unless a letter bearing the signature of an aristocrat, nobility or royalty is provided stating that their presence in the Inner Bailey is truly requested.
Those who are not honoured guests may enter if they have business. They will be searched upon entry and may not bear pouches, satchels, cases, purses or have weapons upon their person. They will be questioned about their business and may be denied entry. Honoured guests will not be permitted to bear any weapons into the Inner Bailey during this time.
Notices about the bridge closures have been posted by Sir Darvius on behalf of the Royal Guard. They are found on the public bulletin board located in the lecture hall south of the Lord Chamberlain’s office. These hours are subject to change.
It is unknown how long His Excellency’s order to keep the doors closed and locked will remain in effect. Any with information regarding the identities of the attacker(s) in any of the attacks or threats detailed above should seek out members of the Royal Guard or Winter Watch.
This chronicle will be subject to changes and corrections, as I humbly ask that the readers indicate to me through their discretion any falsehood I may have mistakenly communicated.
In service to Her Majesty Queen Vivienne, the Lord Chamberlain, the Chronicler's Office, and the Denizenry of our Gracious Queen's Realm;
Ser Darcy
Assistant Chronicler
